Your Shammah Wonders Safaris driver collects you from Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfers you to your overnight lodge in Arusha. The lodges we select for pre-safari nights combine comfort, good food, and pleasant gardens — the perfect environment to recover from a long journey and prepare mentally for the adventure ahead. A welcome dinner with your guide provides the opportunity to review the four-day program, ask every question you have, and adjust anything in the itinerary to your personal preferences.
Accommodation: Arusha Planet Lodge
Meals included: Dinner
Approximate driving time: 1-2 hours to lodge
After breakfast at dawn, your safari begins. The two-hour drive from Arusha to Tarangire passes through the edge of the Maasai Steppe — a vast, semi-arid landscape of red soil and acacia that feels ancient and enormous. Arrival at Tarangire's main gate opens into one of Tanzania's most rewarding park ecosystems: the baobab plains, where some individual trees are estimated to be over 1,000 years old, and the Tarangire River, where the concentration of wildlife during the dry season rivals even the Serengeti.
Your guide drives the most productive river-corridor circuits first, positioning the vehicle near active elephant family groups and watching patiently as lions move across the open ground towards waterholes in the midday heat. Giraffes browse the flat-top acacia canopy against the blue sky — one of Tanzania's most iconic compositions. Afternoon game drives move into the swamp areas and riverine forest where buffalo gather and leopards rest in the dense vegetation. Overnight at a comfortable lodge near the park.
Accommodation: Lake Manyara Wildlife Lodge
Meals included: Breakfast, picnic lunch, dinner
Approximate driving time: 2 hours Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Today's drive is one of Tanzania's most scenic journeys. After breakfast, depart through Mto wa Mbu — a remarkable small town where representatives of 120 different Tanzanian tribes live and trade side by side — and begin the ascent into the Ngorongoro Highlands. The temperature drops, coffee and banana plantations line the road, and the landscape transforms into rolling green hills as you climb to over 2,000 meters.
A short stop at a viewpoint above the Ngorongoro Crater rim reveals the entire caldera below — a 260-square-kilometre bowl of savannah, forest, wetland, and lake enclosed by ancient volcanic walls. This is a preview; tomorrow you will be inside it. The descent from the highlands onto the Serengeti plains is equally dramatic — a vast, golden horizon opening ahead of you as the road straightens and the landscape flattens into the legendary endless plains.
Arrival in the Serengeti at approximately 3:00pm is followed immediately by a late afternoon game drive — the best possible introduction to the park. Lions are frequently encountered on the Seronera corridor in late afternoon; cheetahs scan the grassland from termite mounds; and the setting sun turns the Serengeti's trademark golden plains into something painterly and almost unreal.
Accommodation: Serengeti Wild Camp
Meals included: Breakfast, picnic lunch, dinner
Approximate driving time: 5 to 6 hours to Central Serengeti
Experience the magic of Serengeti National Park with a Half Day adventure immersing yourself in its boundless plains, each turn unveiling a new marvel of nature. Explore the iconic savannah landscapes, encountering a diverse array of wildlife in their native surroundings, from awe-inspiring lions to elegant giraffes. As the sun sets, venture towards the captivating rim of Ngorongoro Crater for an overnight retreat, where the day's adventures seamlessly merge with the serenity of the African night, ensuring an indelible safari journey awaits.
